CMAS Testing
It’s that time of year again for Colorado State testing with CMAS (Colorado Measures for Academic Success) tests for 3rd through 8th graders along with PSAT testing for 9th-10th graders and SAT testing for 11th graders.
CMAS is Colorado specific testing and also includes science and social studies testing. Science is taken every year by 5th, 8th, and 11th graders. Social Studies will be taken once every three years by 4th, 7th, and 10th graders, but the state is not requiring this test for 2023.
This year all of these state assessments will be done in a three week testing window from April 11th to April 27th. When our students do well on the state assessments, the school can do a better job of attracting funding and staff. Testing will take place both in the morning and in the afternoon. The schedules for each grade are given on the following pages of this letter.
CMAS requires quite a bit of time, particularly for 3rd through 8th graders. We are required to have students make up any tests they missed. Makeups are time consuming and cause students to miss other class activities. Please try not schedule any appointments for these days. Students will not be given homework assignments except for their reading during the days of their testing.
To help your child get ready for testing:
*Please make sure they get enough sleep.
*Please make sure they eat a healthy breakfast and pack a healthy lunch.
*Please make sure they come to school on time and stay for the whole day.
Please be aware that Parent Volunteers are not allowed on campus during testing on April 11-13. Also be aware of signs posted on doorways and in the common rooms to alert you to testing that is in progress should you be on campus during other dates. If you need to leave a note or drop off a forgotten lunch or backpack, please leave it in the front office, and we will make sure your child gets it as soon as testing is complete.
Your children are all very bright, capable and well prepared for the challenges they will face throughout their lives. Thank you so much for all of your support and hard work.
If you have any questions concerning the testing schedule, etc. please feel free to contact Kerri Schulze, Assessment Coordinator, or Andrew Collins, Head of School, at 970-243-1771.
