Safety & Security
Safety & Security at Caprock Academy
At Caprock Academy, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and visitors is at the heart of our mission. As a school committed to academic excellence, character development, and personal accountability, we recognize that a safe and secure environment is essential for fostering a thriving learning community.
Our safety efforts are led by our Director of Facilities and Safety-Security who oversees the implementation of comprehensive safety protocols, regular risk assessments, and emergency response procedures tailored specifically to the needs of our campus. We prioritize proactive measures and continuous training to ensure our school remains a secure and welcoming place for everyone. We also work closely with District 51 to ensure that our first responders have a consistent experience with our school and with what they encounter at D51 schools. This collaboration extends to working with D51 safety team to align our processes, ensuring they are similar, if not the same, for seamless coordination in emergency situations.
Through strong partnerships with local law enforcement, first-responding agencies, and D51, we enhance our safety practices and provide a well-rounded approach to campus security.
At Caprock Academy, safety is more than a responsibility, it reflects our dedication to nurturing the minds and hearts of our students, equipping them to succeed academically and develop into confident, responsible citizens.
Caprock Academy Emergency Information
At Caprock Academy, the safety of our students, staff, and visitors is our highest priority. In alignment with our mission to foster a safe learning environment, we have established clear protocols for emergency situations. Here are the key terms you should know:
- Lockdown
A lockdown is initiated when there is a potential threat inside, outside, or near the building. During a lockdown, students and staff remain inside classrooms or designated safe areas with doors locked and windows secured. Normal activities will not resume until authorities have determined it is safe to do so. - Shelter-in-Place
This is a precautionary measure typically taken when the school is notified of a situation that is unlikely to pose a direct risk of harm or injury to students or staff. During a shelter-in-place, students and staff remain indoors with doors and windows sealed until authorities determine the situation is safe. - Reunification
A reunification occurs when students are reunited with parents or guardians following an incident or evacuation. This process ensures every student is accounted for and safely returned to their family. Reunifications may take place at the school or at a pre-designated alternate location, depending on the circumstances.
Our safety protocols are developed in collaboration with District 51 and local first responders to ensure a consistent and effective response during emergencies. By maintaining clear procedures and strong partnerships, Caprock Academy is committed to providing a secure environment where students can thrive academically and personally.
Caprock Academy Communication Protocols
At Caprock Academy, clear and timely communication is essential during emergencies. To keep our families informed, we have established the following protocols:
- Notifications: Parents will be notified of all lockdowns, shelter-in-place events, and reunification locations via email and through Facts Parent Alert. Updates about these events will also be shared on Caprock Academy's website and social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.
- Reunifications: If a reunification is required, parents will follow a structured process to ensure the safety and accountability of all students:
- Upon arrival, parents will be directed to a single-entry point where they must show a photo ID and complete an information form. To minimize congestion, only one parent or guardian should go to the reunification site.0
- After completing the form, the parent or guardian will wait in a designated area while their information is confirmed.
- Once verification is complete, school staff will escort the student to the waiting parent or guardian.
Caprock Academy works collaboratively with District 51 to ensure that our communication protocols align closely with theirs, providing a consistent experience for parents and first responders. This approach ensures our families remain informed and supported throughout any emergency situation, reinforcing our commitment to student safety and well-being.
