Board of Directors

The Caprock Academy Board of Directors will be comprised of from five to nine members and will always include a majority of parents. The Board will be elected by the parents/guardians of the students attending Caprock Academy and will operate according to the by-laws laid out by the schools operating committee.

KJ Kline, President
 
KJ is a financial advisor and co-owner of Hutton and Kline Wealth Management Group. Prior to becoming a financial advisor, he was employed in the Oil & Gas Industry and served in the US Navy and US Air Force. KJ received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado Mesa University and has over 20 years of professional & leadership experience. KJ continues to serve Veterans and the community as the Post Commander for American Legion Post 2006 and has served on the Fruita Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. KJ resides in Fruita with his wife and 3 daughters. They enjoy the outdoors and frequently hike, camp, and golf. 
 
 
David CarloDavid Carlo, Vice President
 
David is the Executive Director for Mesa County RSVP, Inc., a non-profit organization which places retired and senior residents of the Grand Valley into volunteer positions to benefit our communities and the volunteers themselves. Before taking the position at RSVP, Dave was a public educator and a coach for 27 years. He received his bachelor's degree in history from the University of Colorado at Denver and his Masters in Pedagogy, (Teaching) was from the same institution. Dave did his Type D (principal) licensure at Colorado Mesa University. While his experience as a teacher was in the public realm, he and his wife raised two very successful children, one of whom graduated from Caprock Academy. His son Monty was a member of the 3rd graduating class at Caprock Academy. Dave remains committed to alternate paths to education, especially in support of productive charter schools.

Jenna is the Deputy Director of Behavioral Health at Mesa County Behavioral Health, where she has a distinguished career dedicated to improving the mental health and well-being of the community. With a master’s degree in public health from Creighton University, Jenna brings a wealth of expertise and leadership to her role, overseeing strategic initiatives that address the behavioral health needs of Mesa County.  Throughout her career, Jenna has consistently demonstrated her commitment to enhancing healthcare services, using her administrative acumen to implement programs that make a significant impact on the community. Her work is marked by a passion for advancing the field through innovative and effective approaches.  Jenna is also a devoted wife and mother of five, with three of her children currently attending Caprock Academy. One of her children graduated with Caprock Academy's Class of 2021, and another graduated in 2024. Actively involved in her community, Jenna contributes her time and skills to various local initiatives. Even with her demanding professional and family life, she finds time to enjoy the outdoors, running, hiking, and spending time with her family. Her unwavering dedication to both her career and personal life makes her an valuable member of the Caprock Academy Board of Directors.

Ryan is a General Manager for Pacific Group Resorts, Inc. which operates Powderhorn Mountain Resort. Ryan has resided in the Grand Valley since 2019 and has one daughter attending Caprock Kindergarten.  Ryan was practically born wearing skis and grew up as an accomplished ski racer and learned the trades of small business while working in his father’s ski and bike shops. He has a culinary degree from PCT-Penn State and has worked across multiple industries throughout his career, spanning from restaurants in New York to stints with Aramark, Sodexho and Brock and Company before returning to the ski industry full-time in 2010. Ryan has coached ski racing at many levels for the past 26 years and holds multiple national certifications.  Ryan has reshaped business through sustainable practices and transformative leadership. He has overseen more than $30M in capital projects. In addition to overseeing the daily operations and future planning of Powderhorn, he is also a frequent speaker and presenter in the ski and outdoor recreation industries.  Ryan engages in community leadership through serving on local and national boards, including Caprock, GJEP, Grand Valley Outdoor Recreation Leadership Council, Mesa County Trial Alliance, Colorado Ski Country USA, and National Ski Areas Association.

Ryan has served as a wildland firefighter for the past 24 years. He is a Deputy District Chief for the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control in the Wildland Fire Management Section. He is also a licensed Realtor with United Country Real Estate serving the Grand Junction area.  Ryan graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resources - Parks and Protected Area Management and has an Associates Degree from Colorado Mountain College in Outdoor Recreation Leadership. He is married and has two children, both attending Caprock Academy.

Joe Goodwin, Parent Member
 
Joseph (Joe) Goodwin is a dedicated husband and proud father of three boys who attend Caprock Academy. He leads his life with unwavering principles, driven by a deep commitment to integrity, responsibility, and compassion. Joe is known for his relentless work ethic and steadfast determination to provide the best for his family. As a hands-on father, he’s actively involved in his sons’ lives—whether tackling school projects, coaching on the field, or putting in long hours to ensure their future. Joe’s actions speak louder than words, consistently reflecting his devotion to family and his belief in leading by example. His life is a testament to strength, service, and enduring commitment.
