Caprock Academy is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional.  Caprock Academy is a public, tuition-free school chartered by the Colorado Charter School Institute and utilizes the timeless principles of classically oriented education. 

 

Caprock Academy follows the Core Knowledge© curriculum in grades K–8. This curriculum encompasses language arts, mathematics, science, history, geography, fine arts, and physical education. The curriculum is characterized by content-rich instruction, cumulative knowledge, content-specific lessons, and coherent sequencing.  The foundation of our academics are rooted in classical education philosophy and pedagogy, following the grammar, logic and rhetoric trivium. The Special Education Paraprofessional shall report to the Special Education teacher and is accountable to the Director of Support Services.  The Special Education Paraprofessional assists teachers and the administration of Caprock Academy to achieve its mission of academic and personal leadership within its student body and faculty. S/he follows the direction of the Special Education teacher and Director of Support Services, supports and guides students, and assists in student achievement. 

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, non-exempt 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, full-time 

WORK HOURS: 32-34 hours per week

PAY RANGE: $16.91 hourly

REPORTS TO: Special Education Case Manager

 

Essential Duties:

  • Reinforce learning in small groups or with individuals while the teacher works with other students.
  • Become familiar with and address (or follow through with) pertinent IEP information such as goals, accommodations, and behavior plans along with identified strategies in behavior plans.
  • Support student in the general education setting as directed by the special education or general education teacher.
  • Follow schedule as outlined by the teacher (schedules are developed in accordance with LRE).
  • Provide assistance with individualized programmed materials.
  • Assist individual students in performing activities initiated by the teacher.
  • Monitor student health and safety.
  • Monitor student progress as directed.
  • Assist the teacher in observing, recording, and charting behavior.
  • Assist the teacher with crisis problems and behavior management.
  • Be an additional set of ears and eyes to keep students safe.
  • Help supervise students in the hallway, lunchroom, and playground as outlined in their IEP.
  • Assist with supporting the physical needs of students, including but not limited to toileting, feeding, dressing etc.
  • Complete forms that track data and/or provide support.
  • Assist in monitoring supplementary work and independent study.
  • Score objective tests and papers and maintain appropriate records for teachers.
  • Perform clerical tasks.
  • Assist in preparation of instructional materials including but not limited to creating flash cards, charts, worksheets, computer projects etc.
  • Work with the teacher/case manager/Director of Support Services to develop classroom schedules.
  • Assist with field trips, outings, drills etc.
  • Support teachers with general classroom activities when appropriate (ex. hand out or collect papers).
  • Supervise free play activities.
  • Attend in-services and workshops.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. 
  • Experience in working with students, preferred
  • Commitment to Classical Education and the Core Knowledge Sequence as well as other aspects of Caprock Academy’s Core Values (i.e., Singapore Math)

Required Upon Hiring

  • Complete the Praxis Parapro exam within first calendar year from date of hire (if not currently teaching certified)
  • Complete Love & Logic program training
