Back to School 2026-2027

Students should come to school ready to learn and on time each day.  Please make sure your student has their lunch, snack, and homework, and that they are dressed appropriately for school.  This will cut down on the number of phone calls that are made to parents and will reduce the number of disruptions to the class.

Absence Reporting

The school must be notified of all student absences by 8:00 a.m. using one of of the following methods: 

• Campus Parent Portal
• Report an Absence Form
• Call 970-243-1771, option 3, or extension 3005

Early Pick Up

If you need to pick up your student before regular dismissal (3:00 p.m. for K–6 or 3:15 p.m. for 7–12), please notify the school that morning using one of the following methods:

• Call the Front Office at 970-243-1771
• Email frontoffice@caprockacademy.org
• Send a note or email to your student’s teacher

Advance notice allows us time to have your student ready in the Front Office. All students MUST be signed out through the Front Office before leaving campus.

If someone other than a parent or guardian will be picking up your student, please notify the Front Office in advance. The individual must be listed as an authorized pick-up person and present a valid photo ID. Their ID will be scanned through our visitor management system before the student is released.

If your child has a 100-degree fever or above, has any flu-like symptoms, vomiting and/or diarrhea, we ask that you keep your child at home.  The student will not be allowed to return to school until he or she is vomit and fever free with no aid from fever reducing medicines, for at least 24 hours.

Your child is NOT allowed to have any medicines with them on campus.  Not on their person, in their lunch bag, in their backpacks or in their lockers. This includes but is not limited to, prescription medicines, over the counter medicines such as Tylenol, Motrin, Cough and Cold, cough drops, inhalers, Chapstick, herbals, and vitamins.  All medicine must be given to the school health office to dispense.

Prescription Medications must have a physician’s order form for medication to be given at school.  The physician has this form at their office or can be found on our website on the Health Office page.  The form must be filled out and signed by the physician.  The form must also be signed by the parent or guardian.  It may be faxed to the school at (970) 243-3612.  All prescription medication must be in its original container with the original prescription label.  The label must include the student’s name, dosage information, administering directions, doctor’s name and number, and pharmacy’s information.  Inhalers must have the label on the inhaler itself, not just on the box of the inhaler, if asked; the pharmacist will place a label on the inhaler for you.

Over the counter (OTC) medicines must also be in their original manufacturing packaging with dosage and administering instructions.  Parents must bring all OTC medicine (including cough drops and Chapstick) to the school nurse’s office.  An over-the-counter medication permission form must be filled out and signed by parent or guardian for medication to be given. OTC medicine may not be sent with your student in their backpacks, lunch bag, or on their person, to administer themselves. OTC medicine is not to be sent in with the student to give to his or her teacher or school nurse.  All medicine must be given to the nurse by the parent and a form must be signed to be administered at school.  All medicine will remain in the school nurse’s office until picked up by parent or guardian.

Parents may choose to come and sign in at the school and have their student taken out of class to administer medicine personally.

All prescription and over-the-counter medicine must have current dates on the product.  No expired medicine will be given.

If your student received any new immunizations over the summer, please bring updated records from the doctor’s office so that we can update our records.  If your student has any past medical history or is currently undergoing any medical treatment that you would like to discuss, please feel free to call the health office at 970-243-1771

We have streamlined the way we collect Parent Permissions. These permissions are now gathered through a single Permission Form, which was sent home with third-quarter report cards last school year.

Once submitted, this form remains on file for the duration of your student’s time at Caprock Academy, no more annual updates are required unless you choose to make changes.

If you wish to update or revise any permissions,  such as your student’s Permission to Walk, please contact our Registrar at registrar@caprockacademy.org.

If you would like to verify whether your student currently has Permission to Walk on file, you may contact the front office, your child’s teacher, or our Registrar for assistance.

If you enrolled your student this school year, you already completed this form as part of your enrollment paperwork. No further action is needed unless you would like to make changes.

For families with multiple households, Student Information Authorization forms must be completed each year by the biological or legal parent/guardian. This form grants permission for stepparents or significant others to access student information or assist with pick-up. Forms are available in the front office.

The Free & Reduced Application Management Form for Educational Benefits (FRAM) will be available online through the Infinite Campus Family Portal. Completing this form helps support our district's eligibility for state and federal education funding. Families will receive an email with additional information and instructions once the form becomes available.

Volunteer Application & Background Checks must be renewed each year.  Any adult who will have access to students, i.e. playground duty, classroom assistance, traffic duty, etc. will be required to complete our online Volunteer Application and submit a current background check dated on or after July 1st of each year.  Please visit the Volunteer Information page on our website for additional information. 

Please know that volunteers and visitors will not be allowed in the classroom for the first 3 weeks of school.  This will allow the teachers and students time to bond and to develop a daily routine.  Please contact your child’s teacher for information about take-home projects to do.  We will have plenty of Caprock staff on hand each morning to help students find their classrooms, carry their supplies, and start the day feeling welcomed, supported, and safe.

Beginning after the first three weeks of school, all visitors and volunteers will be required to check in at the front office and wear a designated badge when on campus. In the event of an emergency, it is essential that we are able to account for everyone on campus to ensure their safety.
