Kindergarten –6th Grade Basketball Program

Caprock Academy’s K–6 Basketball Program offers a developmentally appropriate introduction to team sports that supports physical growth, social connection, and moral development. Rooted in our mission to cultivate character and personal responsibility, this program emphasizes effort, cooperation, and sportsmanship over competition alone.

Each winter, students in grades K–6 are invited to participate in this 8-week program, designed to:

  • Build foundational basketball skills in a structured and supportive environment

  • Encourage teamwork, communication, and peer encouragement

  • Foster perseverance, discipline, and a respect for rules and fair play

  • Provide a positive outlet for physical activity and energy

The program includes eight practices focused on skill-building and team dynamics, as well as six inter-squad games where students compete against other Caprock Academy teams. Games are organized to ensure that every student participates, learns, and has fun—regardless of experience level.

Whether your child is brand new to basketball or already has experience, this program is a wonderful way to reinforce the values taught in our classrooms while laying the foundation for future participation in middle and high school athletics.

Coaching & Volunteer Needs

Parents may earn 10–14 volunteer hours by coaching their child’s team. This program depends on the support of our Caprock families, and we warmly welcome those willing to help. No extensive basketball knowledge is required—just a willingness to lead with enthusiasm and a heart for our students.

If coaching isn’t the right fit for you, there are other meaningful ways to contribute. From assisting with game day logistics to helping with practice setup, we are happy to match you with a role that suits your time and comfort level.

To learn more about available opportunities, please contact Miss Averna directly. Your support makes programs like this possible and helps us continue to offer enriching experiences for our students.

All Volunteers MUST complete a Volunteer Application.  For additional information on our volunteer requirements, please see our Volunteer Page.
