Athletic Opportunities

Parents/Student Athletics & Activities Handbook

The following handbook is intended to provide insight into the mission and values that guide Caprock Academy’s Athletics and Activities programs. While we pursue excellence and strive for success in competition, our ultimate goal is not defined by wins and losses alone.

Participation in athletics and activities offers students meaningful opportunities to grow in both skill and character. We believe that the arena of competition is a powerful setting for the development of the whole person. It is within this context that virtues such as respect, responsibility, diligence, honesty, generosity, perseverance, courage, faithfulness, compassion, openness to inquiry, and humility can be modeled, cultivated, and lived out.

Our philosophy is to provide an environment where students can strengthen their abilities while being formed by values that lead to a well-rounded, virtuous life. We aim for our students not only to compete with excellence but also to exemplify outstanding character both on and off the field.

We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with you in this endeavor, serving as role models who help guide our students in becoming admirable and principled individuals.

Student Athlete Concussions

Athlete concussions will be managed by the Athletic Trainer. The Athletic Trainer and the school health office must to be notified if an athlete has sustained a concussion. Here is a brief outline of the return to learn and sport process.

  1. The student athlete gets diagnosed with a concussion by a physician.
  2. The student athlete will check in EVERY DAY with the athletic trainer to monitor symptoms.
  3. The student athlete will receive academic accommodations, and will work with the school health office to return back to the classroom if school was missed.
  4. The school health office and athletic trainer receive the physician clearance form. *I have added the physician clearance form to the documents in the team app.
  5. The athletic trainer will manage the return to sport and physical activity. This process is 5 phases that will gradually increase exercise intensity. The exercise phases have to be 24 hours apart.

The student athletes safety is our number one priority. Just like the student athletes, concussions are unique and they will be managed on a case by case basis.

National Letter of Intent & Collegiate Commitment Ceremonies

Caprock Academy is proud to recognize and celebrate student-athletes who have committed to competing at the collegiate level. Whether your student is signing a National Letter of Intent (NLI) for an athletic scholarship or formally committing to play for a non-scholarship program, we invite you to honor this achievement through a Signing or Commitment Ceremony on campus.

To request a ceremony, please complete the form below. A member of our Athletic Department will contact you to finalize the details and assist with planning.

What to Expect:

  • Ceremonies typically include a brief introduction by a coach or staff member, followed by the student’s official signing.

  • Students may choose to speak, but it is not required.

  • The event usually lasts around 10-15 minutes and may include photos or brief interviews from local media (when applicable).

  • Caprock Academy will provide space, tables, and chairs. Families are welcome to bring additional items to personalize the celebration.

Whenever possible, we aim to schedule group ceremonies for athletes from the same sport or signing on the same day.
