Testing

Updated State testing for Caprock for 2021

It’s that time of year again for Colorado State testing with CMAS (Colorado Measures for Academic Success) tests for 3rd through 8th graders along with PSAT testing for 9th-10th graders and SAT testing for 11th graders.

On March 26th the Colorado State Legislator has reduced the testing requirements due to COVID-19.  See table for specific tests. We will be testing on April 13th, 14th, 15th in the morning starting at 8:00.  Additionally 8th grade will take the Science test at 12:30 on those days.

Families have the option for their student/s to take both the Math and Reading/Writing tests. This gives families a better view of their students’ performance when results come out next fall.  Caprock Academy also benefits from having as much assessment data as possible.  If you desire to have your student/s take both tests, please  email Ron Phillips with your name and the names of the students you want to opt-in for testing by Friday, April 2nd. These additional tests will be given on April 20th, 21st and 22nd.

We are required to have students make up any tests they missed.  Makeups are time consuming and cause students to miss other class activities. Please try not to schedule doctor’s appointments, etc. for these days if possible.

To help your child get ready for testing:

*Please make sure they get enough sleep.

*Please make sure they eat a healthy breakfast and pack a healthy lunch.

*Please make sure they come to school on time and stay for the whole day.

Your children are all very bright, capable, and well prepared for the challenges they will face throughout their lives.

If you have any questions concerning the testing schedule, etc. please feel free to email Ron Phillips, Director of Data and Assessment or Andrew Collins, Head of School.

Thank you so much for all of your support and hard work.

All public schools and districts are required by state law (Colorado Revised Statutes 22-7-409) to administer standards-based summative assessments each year to all enrolled students. Colorado is no longer a member of the PARCC consortium and therefore no longer gives the PARCC tests.  The PARCC tests have been replaced by the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) for 3rd through 8th graders along with PSAT testing for 9th-10th graders and SAT testing for 11th graders.  In addition to Math and ELA (English Language Assessment), CMAS also includes science and social studies testing.  Provided below is a table outlining tests given.
Test Frequency Grade(s) Tested
CMAS ELA Every Year 3rd - 8th
CMAS Math Every Year 3rd - 8th
CMAS Science Every Year 5th, 8th, 11th
CMAS Social Studies Once Every 3 Years 4th, 7th, 11th
PSAT - 8/9 Every Year 9th
PSAT - 10 Every Year 10th
SAT Every Year 11th

Tips for Success:

To help your child get ready for testing:

  • Please make sure they get enough sleep.
  • Please make sure they eat a healthy breakfast and pack a healthy lunch.
  • Please make sure they come to school on time and stay for the whole day.

Additional Information:

  • Please be aware that Parent Volunteers are not allowed on campus during testing.
  • If you need to leave a note or drop off a forgotten lunch or backpack, please leave it at the front office and we will make sure your child gets it as soon as testing is complete.

  • ELA - English Literacy
  • RT - Regular Time test.  Does not include any extra time.  Students needing extra time are tested separately with more time to complete the test.
  • TH - Time and a half test. Includes extra time for students needing it.
