Notice of Caprock Academy Board of Directors Member Vacancy

The Caprock Academy Board of Directors has one (1) seat that has become available due to a board member resignation.   This seat is open to parents of Caprock students or community members and has a a term length expiring in May of 2027. The beginning date of service for the newly elected board members will be determined based on candidate applications. 

Per the By-Laws of Caprock Academy, Section 4.4.5, requirements for Caprock Board of Directors candidacy are: 

  1. No Board member shall be an employee of the school or a spouse, legal domestic partner, or immediate family member (children, parent or in-laws) of an employee of the school; 
  2. The prospective candidate shall have attended at least one regular meeting of the Caprock Academy Board of Directors prior to being seated to the board; 
  3. Applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled.  
  4. The prospective candidate must submit the following documents to the Caprock Board Election Committee Chair: 
  • Letter of Interest; 

  • Abbreviated Resume; 

  • Completed CABOD Application (available on the Caprock Academy website); 

  • Current background check from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (https://www.cbirecordscheck.com); and  

  • Signed Conflict of Interest and Code of Ethics documents (available on the Caprock website)  

  • Recommended but not required: Complete the free training “Role of a Charter School Board Director” located on the CSI website. https://resources.csi.state.co.us/school-board-governance-library/ 

The Caprock Academy Board of Directors (the "Board") is the governing body of the school. The Board has the responsibility for ensuring that the school is operating in compliance with its charter, bylaws, and contract with its authorizer. The Board is also charged with creating a master plan that ensures that the school is achieving its Vision and that decisions are made in harmony with the school's Vision. The Board is also responsible for ensuring the financial strength and stability of the school.  

Applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled.

The Caprock Academy Board Election Committee is responsible for reviewing all applications against the candidate rules and putting forth all eligible candidates to the Caprock Community. 

Section 4.4.14. Vacancies.

A CABOD seat, that becomes vacant due to resignation or other reasons (not to include removal), shall be filled in accordance with this Section 4.4.14.

A vacant seat with 6 months or more remaining in its term shall be filled by the then current members of the CABOD casting a majority vote for a potential candidate. At least one week prior to any such vote, a potential candidate shall provide the CABEC with all the required documents set forth above for a regular election candidate and shall be otherwise confirmed as eligible by the CABEC. A candidate receiving the majority vote of the CABOD members shall be seated at the next regular CABOD meeting.

If a vacant seat has less than 6 months remaining in its term, the CABOD, in its discretion, may decide to leave such seat vacant until the next regular election or to fill such seat in accordance with the procedure set forth here.

A CABOD member filling a vacant seat pursuant to this Section 4.4.14 shall hold office until the next annual election for such CABOD seat.
