Blog from Mr. Andrew Collins

The last week of school... If you would have told me back in February that we would have finished the school year without having students back on campus for the entire fourth quarter, I would have thought that to be an impossibility. I would have asked you about all the events yet to happen… Spring History Day, the 8th Grade Washington D.C. trip, Senior Decision Day, hundreds of state tests, SATs, PSATs, AP Tests, Senior Thesis presentations, Kindergarten Graduation, 5th Grade Waterfest at CMU, Band Concerts, Choir Concerts, Track Meets, and our yearly schoolwide culminating event of graduation, sending our seniors, some of whom have been with teachers here at Caprock since Kindergarten, out into the world to chase their dreams. Instead, it’s quiet around the campus. Rooms that should be bustling with children excited about the advent of summer break are silent and empty. The busyness of the end of day pick up, seeing smiling faces, hearing happy chatter, friends waving, parents talking, all has ceased to happen, almost in the blink of an eye. The end of a school year is supposed to feel like the air after a rainstorm; fresh, clean and cool. That hasn’t happened for many of us, especially our seniors. However, I believe that life is more about relationships than it is any one single moment. Too often we let something unpleasant drown out the sweet music of all the good things that came before, not to mention all the wonderful things yet to come! But a cloud that hides a mountain does not make the mountain disappear; it just hides the beauty for a little while.
